Renewable Energy Alternative Fuels

Clean Energy CNGThe Puente Hills Compressed Natural Gas Fueling Station is located at the Puente Hills Materials Recovery Facility and began operation in October 2005. The facility was originally constructed as a liquefied natural gas (LNG) and compressed natural gas (CNG) station and was upgraded in 2020 to a state-of-the-art CNG-only facility.

The Puente Hills CNG Station has two compressors and two dual-hose fast-fill dispensers (4 hoses) delivering CNG at 3,600 psig.  An adjacent time-fill station with 10 hoses is for overnight fueling of Districts’ vehicles.

  • The fast-fill self-service station is open to the public 24-hours a day.
  • CNG purchases are by credit card only.
  • Its location affords convenient access to the 60 and 605 freeways.

Clean Energy operates the station and supplies renewable natural gas (RNG) for all fuel dispensed.

Benefits

CNG station

Natural gas benefits the environment because it burns cleaner compared to gasoline or diesel and results in lower greenhouse gas emissions. The use of RNG further reduces carbon intensity of the fuel relative to CNG. Natural gas also provides cost savings to the Sanitation Districts since its price is lower and more stable relative to gasoline or diesel.
