The Los Angeles County Sanitation Districts are applying for an EPA Brownfields Cleanup Grant to help reduce the cost of cleaning up a contaminated property that the agency purchased in Carson.

We are hosting a meeting on November 9, 2022, at 6:30 PM to answer questions and accept comments on our draft grant application, including a draft Analysis of Brownfield Cleanup Alternatives (available here.) You may attend via Zoom ID 845 7210 4587, or in person at 24501 South Figueroa Street, Carson, CA. If you require special assistance or translation to participate in this meeting, please notify us at least 48 hours in advance.

You can contact us at info@lacsd.org or 562-908-4288, ext. 2300 with questions or comments, which will be accepted until 5:00 PM on November 10, 2022.

Background

The Sanitation Districts treat wastewater (sewage) for 5.5 million people in Los Angeles County.

A portion of the property at our wastewater treatment plant in Carson was previously home to an oil refinery that caused contamination at the property, creating a “brownfield.” We must clean up the property before we can use it.

We have already completed much of the work and are about to start the next phase. To reduce the cost to our ratepayers, we are seeking a federal grant.
