The California Public Records Act (the CPRA - Government Code Section 6250 et seq.) provides that access to information concerning the conduct of the people’s business is a fundamental and necessary right of every person in this state. Read below for the type of records request you are seeking.
- Records related to a Phase I Environmental Site Assessment: to begin your search, click here.
- Sewer map requests: email your request with location map to engineeringcounter@lacsd.org. As-builts for Los Angeles County Sanitation Districts' (Sanitation Districts) facilities are also available to view and download through the Sanitation Districts' Underground Utilities Application.
- All other records requests:
To assist the public in making requests for disclosable public records under the CPRA, the Los Sanitation Districts have developed this procedure.
- The Sanitation Districts have developed a Public Records Request Form (also linked below) to assist the public in providing the necessary information to promptly process a request. The completed form should be e-mailed to the Sanitation Districts’ Records Administrator or mailed to the address shown on the bottom of the form. If requested, the Sanitation Districts will assist you in making focused and effective requests for identifiable records.
In accordance with the CPRA, the Sanitation Districts has ten (10) calendar days to provide a response on whether the Sanitation Districts prepare, own, use, or retain records as described in the request. The ten (10) days begin the day the request is received by the Sanitation Districts during normal business hours, not when it is sent by the requester.
If the Sanitation Districts require additional time to gather and prepare the documents, you will be given an estimate of the length of time necessary to process the request1.
- When the records search and review are complete, and upon request, records in electronic format may be e-mailed to you. If the record(s) file size exceeds the Sanitation Districts’ email limitations, the Sanitation Districts may send the records in up to (4) four separate emails. Should the records exceed this e-mail limit, they will be copied to a CD, DVD or USB drive (media) and arrangements for delivery will be coordinated.
If records are in hard copy form, you will be provided an opportunity to make an appointment to review the records. If the request is for a specific, easily accessible, disclosable record(s) that is 20 pages or less in length, the Sanitation Districts may waive the requirement for reimbursement of the direct costs. If the compiled records exceed 20 pages, you will be provided an opportunity to make or obtain copies subject to payment of the direct costs of duplication and mailing. You may also arrange to bring your own copy or scanning device/service to obtain the requested copies.
1The CPRA describes records that are exempt from disclosure. If records are withheld subject to the exemptions, the Sanitation Districts will notify the requestor of the reasons for withholding records.
2 The Sanitation Districts may waive expense reimbursement for up to (5) five requests per calendar year that meet these limitations.
