Wastewater Projects / Programs
When the Sanitation Districts were formed in the 1920s, the agency embarked on its first major project -- the construction of the backbone trunk sewer of the Joint Outfall System and the Joint Water Pollution Control Plant, the first treatment plant. The agency became pioneers in solving the region's sewerage problems.
Since then, the Sanitation Districts have completed many challenging projects, providing environmentally sound, cost-effective wastewater and solid waste management services to over 5 million people in Los Angeles County. Today, the Sanitation Districts continue to build award-winning construction projects, engage in trend-setting research, and create innovative programs that make the organization leaders in wastewater and solid waste management.
